Davis County Cello Ensemble
A premiere cello choir composed of advanced cellists who are committed to working hard and sharing their musical talents in fun, creative, and beautiful ways.
How the Magic Happens
Cellists practice and prepare specific measures at home each day, then meet together once or twice each month to play and polish all of the music they’ve learned. Benefits include learning to blend sounds and work together as a team, improving cello technique, and enjoying the heavenly sounds that only a cello choir can produce.
Membership Requirements
- Young cellists must be at least age 11 and able to easily play music from Suzuki Book 6 or the equivalent.
- A well-developed vibrato and experience in thumb position are necessary for participation.
- Cellists should already be familiar with bass, tenor and treble clefs.
- All music will be memorized, so cellists will need to put in 10-15 minutes per day to prepare assignments between rehearsals. See Membership Form for more information.

Audition Requirements
- 3 or 4-Octave D Major Scale: slow, legato, and carefully tuned with separate bows.
- 3 or 4-Octave contrasting minor scale of choice: can be melodic, harmonic or natural minor. Slur two notes together in each bow.
- 2-Octave C Major Scale: as quickly as possible without affecting accuracy. Slur 8 notes per bow.
- Memorized Vivaldi Double, either part: with another cellist playing duet (teacher OK). Piano accompaniment appreciated, but not required.
Video audition (unlisted YouTube video) or in-person audition with Elizabeth Marsh. Live auditions would not need another cellist for the Vivaldi duet.
Submitting an audition and membership form does not guarantee a seat in the ensemble. If a student’s readiness is in question, it may be better to practice hard this year, and to apply next year instead.
